LONG VIDEO IS LONG. I’M SORRY. I tried to cut this down as much as I could. There are so. many. things. that I didn’t get to in this video, which turned out infinitely more ranty than I meant for it to be.
A quick point of clarification: I cannot emphasize enough that when I refer to people who insist that “the book is better” in this video, I am talking about people who do so without explanation. For the many books I believe are superior to their adaptations, I usually have some specific reasons for feeling that way. This is a separate phenomenon from what I was referring to in this video — people who preference books without articulating any actual reasons for doing so. I’m NOT saying that it’s wrong or a dick move to say that a book is better than its adaptation. I feel like I should repeat that sentence nine more times. I almost omitted that bit because, as I was editing, it occurred to me that I wasn’t as clear as I ought to have been and there’s a super likely chance that this comment will be interpreted not as I intended and cause a shitstorm of defensive responses. So. This is my attempt to forestall that.
