Snark Squad Pod #019 – Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

Previously: We watched a terrible movie that turned a magical thing into sadness and rage.

Sweeney: If you’ve been following our journey with this podcast, you know that the thing has been taking shape, little by little, as we go. But in the early days, when the podcast was just kind of an idea, the goal was going to be that Mari and I would recommend media to each other back and forth. (This lasted for literally two episodes until a Twitter conversation made us decide that it would be cool if two people who knew nothing about Star Wars watched The Force Awakens.)

One of the first things Mari put on that list was Avatar: The Last Airbender. One of the first things I put on that list was Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

We came to actually scheduling an episode for it when Mari joined some friends and I in Portland for my 30th birthday to watch the live show. At that time, she had only seen a handful of episodes, so she had a delightfully backwards way into the show.

Aside from my general enthusiasm for talking about a show I love, THE OTHER THING that makes this episode magical and exciting is that this time we have NOT ONE, BUT TWO guests. We are joined both by longtime Snark Lady, fashion & musical theater wizard Democracy Diva, who you can find with her recaps here on the site, on her hilarious fashion blog, or over on Twitter. Our other guest is the podcast’s most frequent recurring guest, Ceri Riley, who can be found editing scripts for SciShow and Crash Course: Film, being an editorial assistant on Monstress, or being thoughtful and great over on Twitter.

Hear all our many thoughts and feelings about this clever, meta, magical show:

And finally, our media mentioned:

Jane the Virgin (The CW, 2014-present)
The Mindy Project (FOX/Hulu, 2012-2017)
The Hardest-Working Show in Show Business” – the Vulture article Ceri mentioned, detailing the production of the S3 finale

Nicole Sweeney (all posts)

Nicole is the co-captain of Snark Squad and these days she spends most of her time editing podcasts. She spends too much time on Twitter and very occasionally vlogs and blogs. In her day job she's a producer, editor, director, and sometimes host of educational YouTube channels. She loves travel, maps, panda gifs, and semicolons. Writing biographies stresses her out; she crowd sourced this one years ago and has been using a version of it ever since. She would like to thank Twitter for their help.
