Previously: We watched Ocean’s 8 and generally found it a perfectly enjoyable, if forgettable, romp.

Sweeney: We are now a whole HALF A YEAR into this podcasting thing which is kind of wild to me. Perhaps the strangest part is how much it still feels like we are learning how to do this. It has been fun watching us find our groove as we decide what, exactly, we want this podcast to be.
It’s fitting, then, that on this week’s episode we both discuss the ways in which the show we are watching finds its groove and also how we are as well. You guys know how much we love to get meta. We decided to watch Brooklyn 99 in part because I love it but also because today’s guest is someone we very much wanted to have on and she loves this show. Because there are 5 seasons, we only asked Marines to commit to one, but ultimately decided that this was maybe not the best show to approach that way, but HERE WE ARE.
Speaking of Taylor: she can be found all over the internet doing brilliant work as a writer and activist. If you’re new to her work I recommend you start on YouTube or Twitter.
Hear some of our (many) thoughts about this wonderful show, the deep themes it manages to bake into the comedy, and also some of our struggles in podcasting:
(As an added bonus, and as mentioned in the podcast, this is actually not the first time we discussed this show – you can go back in time to our initial reactions to this and other 2013 pilots.)
We’d love to chat with you about this episode! As always, thank you to Stefan Chin for our delightful theme music.
For those of you watching and reading along, here is our planned upcoming media in the order they’ll be released: Eliza and Her Monsters, The Bold Type, Sweet Tooth, A Storm of Swords, and Phase 1 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (yes, we’re doing the thing, guys).
