Previously: Gravity Falls gave us a lot of feelings about children’s media, interactive storytelling, and siblings.

Sweeney: Whenever I assume that everyone in our little community is being inundated with the same pop culture, there is always someone out there to prove me wrong, but I feel a little safer in suggesting that the recent release of Crazy Rich Asians can’t have escaped your notice.
The film has had a great deal of buzz for being the first Hollywood movie with an all Asian cast since Joy Luck Club 25 years ago. As a sucker for romcoms, I found all the trailers delightful and made my way though all the books earlier this month in anticipation of the movie. The material is light and fun, so we weren’t entirely sure what we’d have to say about it, but we figured with good guests we’d at least have fun talking about it.
Speaking of: we are joined once again by Ceri Riley, script editor for SciShow, editorial assistant for Monstress, and all-around delightful human who you should follow on Twitter. We are also joined for the first time by Stefan Chin who has never technically been on the podcast even though we thank him every week for our theme music. Stefan is a producer for SciShow and also a delightful Twitter human.
Also, we discuss the sequel, which, at the time we recorded on Monday, August 20th, was still very much hypothetical but it is now very much happening.
Hear all of our thoughts about this delightful spectacle of a movie:

(There’s obviously a ton more to be said on on the film’s representation and on Awkwafina’s use of AAVE and we do not pretend this list is anything but a jumping off point, but if you found anything particularly worth reading, we welcome you to leave it in the comments.)

*this is a liveshow we are recording at BookNet Fest so we hope this will be episode 36 of the actual podcast, that all depends on how recording goes at the event
