Previously: Our unofficial Jane Austen fan club reconvened to gush about Emma and its adaptations, especially Clueless.

Sweeney: We’re all friends here so I can confess that sometimes we decide to cover things on the podcast out of convenience. Last week we had to read a book and watch 2 movies, a BBC miniseries, and a full web series. Next week we’ll be discussing a season each from two different shows. So this week we needed a single movie. A mere 2-ish hours of content to consume as our sole homework for the week.
Alita: Battla Angel is adapted from a manga and features a non-human main character in an otherwise (mostly, it’s complicated) live action film. I’m not sure if I would have gone to see this movie in theaters except for podcast purposes, but it seemed like there would be a ton worth discussing here.
Since we were hopeful that this movie would give us interesting filmmaking stuff to discuss, we asked our friend Tobin Addington to join us again. In to being a gem of a human being, Crash Course: Film writer, and film professor, Tobin co-hosts a truly delightful movie podcast with his sister called The Contenders. (If you like our podcast, you will like his podcast. He and Aislinn are charming and thoughtful and GREAT.)
