Previously: We had a lot of feelings about authorial intent.

Sweeney: We have lately gotten into a habit of filling out our calendar with more new releases driven mostly by an urge to participate in conversations as they happen – both as a podcast and also as individuals who only have so many hours in a day and seemingly try to fill every last one of them with media.
But it’s always really lovely and comforting when we can instead assign ourselves the homework of revisiting stuff we already know we love. (It’s very funny if you go back to the early days of the podcast and hear me tell you that compared to my RECONSUME FAVORITES ALWAYS bff, I didn’t think of myself as a big reconsumer but the more we talk to our other friends I’m like “no it me too”)
And so, in honor of fall and also the fact that there was recently talk of a TBD adaptation, we are talking about Erin Morgenstern’s 2011 novel The Night Circus. This was also our Discord book club pick for the month, and those channels are all still open if you want to dig into the conversation a little further. To help us talk about the magical world of this novel, we invited our dear friend, recurring guest, and known Night Circus fangirl Samantha Lane. Sam runs the channel Thoughts on Tomes and is the co-creator of BookNet Fest. You can also find her having feelings about media over on her Twitter.
It was a lot of fun talking about a thing that we’ve all been thinking about, to some extent, for nearly a decade, and which we’ve all read more than once. Hear all of our thoughts about the characters, themes, and most importantly THE CIRCUS in this week’s episode:
