The More You Know June 2014 – Telling You Things O’ Clock

Sweeney: Last month’s TMYK was called “Plan and Flail” because we had a lot of big things coming up, but they were just far enough down the road that we weren’t sure what to do about those big plans. We’ve discovered that in our quest to blog everything ever, we actually do have to plan things; we’re losing a little room for our standard practice of making shit up as we go. There’s still a lot of that, of course, but some time management is maybe sort of coming into play. We’re still really, really bad at that, but we’re trying!

In other words: this TMYK is kind of a big one. Lots of things ended. Lots of new things are coming up in July. I started working on this post weeks ago because I’m little-kid-on-Christmas excited to share/start all of this.

Lorraine: To be clear: we held off on announcing this stuff right away not because we enjoy keep this crap to ourselves. IT’S PAINFUL. WE WANT TO TELL YOU. Or because we think it’s a big, big surprise. It all goes back to that time management thing we’re trying to be better about. We want to make sure that when we announce a thing, it’s a sure thing, and one we’ve got a considerable head start on.

So yes, we’re excited for it to finally be telling-you-things-o’clock.

Sweeney: As for life stuff: My time management skills are as questionable as ever. June has been a weird month because I’ve actually stayed in one time zone the entire time! There were still some road trips and a train and a wedding but I STAYED IN ONE TIME ZONE! It was an accomplishment.

Lor: A funny thing about our time management, though, is that we often procrastinate Snark Squad stuff with other Snark Squad stuff. I’m not done with the final Orphan Black post yet, but there is a post due to publish in October some time that is fully drafted…

I think my point is that I have very little life stuff to fill you in on. I’m saving money for Paris, so I try not to breathe too much, in case they decide to start charging for that.

Sweeney: Which reminds me of the most important life thing I did not mention, which is that we will be hanging out together in Paris later this month. NBD, GUYS.

And now, the blog. Settle in, Traumateers, because this one’s a biggie:

Last Month:

This month featured a lot of endings. At the start of this month we had six shows in progress and three of those shows wrapped by the end of the month. Game of Thrones and Orphan Black are back on hiatus and we have finally finished Angel and, with that, our Buffyverse coverage. Until maybe one day we get drunk and masochistic enough to do the comics. (Kidding. Probably.)

The home stretch on Angel started with some interesting and weird wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff, took a nose dive with badly placed bickering about Buffy, CrAngel came back but only because Angel had a big secret plan, and finally the show got a send-off worthy of its finest moments when the gang went out fighting. We wrapped it up first by ranking the episodes in S5 and then by ranking the five seasons. After that Kirst shared her best and worst of, Sweeney shared her best and worst of, and Lorraine followed suit with her own best and worst of. And with that, we were done with the Buffyverse and it was weird. Is weird. Continues to be weird.

On Orphan Black Art interrogated Helena until she got free and had a cryfest with Sarah, but then Sarah didn’t really bother to try to get Helena out of jail so she went back to Proletheans Who Heart Science Ranch. Cosima emotionally reminds all of us that while she’s a scientist, she is also still the science itself. We discovered yet another clone, and Gracie realized that Helena’s actually probably better than everyone at her shitty ranch.

In Westeros, Sansa upped her game but Prince Swagger died and broke our hearts. We spent an entire episode at The Wall and it was mostly super boring. The show said goodbye for a whole year with basically the worst Father’s Day present ever. (I mean, if you’re the father in question. Kind of an awesome Father’s Day present if you are a good father who watches/enjoys Game of Thrones.)

Over in Rosewood, things continue to be ridiculous. Shitbag Montgomery stopped being negligent so he could be a movie-ruining creep.

The Supernatural boys faced some weird shadow demons, investigated a house that was haunted purely by peoples’ imaginations, gave us lots of sibling feels with their super traumatic flashbacks, and gave Kirsti the wiggins with a very Sweeney Todd episode.

Meanwhile, Veronica had to track down missing mascots and show us that she can be a good friend to Wallace too. She also introduced us to Vinnie Van Lowe and found Abel Koontz’s daughter.

We started vlogging again! Even before those Angel wrap up vlogs! We talked about favorite places and fond memories, some things we do Beyond Traumaland, and Sweeney flailed about her favorite characters. (Lorraine’s video’s coming, we promise.)

We also have a super cool new YouTube channel trailer which has not yet found a home in a blog post. UNTIL NOW. BEHOLD:

Coming Up:

I AM SO EXCITED I DON’T THINK I CAN EVEN EXPLAIN IT ALL. But I’ll try. As I mentioned before, we lost a whopping three (aka half) of our in-progress shows. What else is there for us to do, then, but add three more! But there’s a tiny bit more to it than just, “Here’s three more shows.”

The new shows:

First of all, we dropped a surprise on you today: Lorraine is now recapping Charmed. She’s doing it solo, sans commentary and alternate recappers, which means she’s also trying out a slightly new format for us in that those recaps are a bit shorter than our normal recaps. With all those other endings, we were getting low on supernatural craziness. The Charmed sisters will fix that for us.

A couple years ago we did a big Back To School Special where we watched the pilot episodes of some cheesy teen shows (timed in conjunction with the beginning of a new season of Buffy). One of those shows was Dawson’s Creek. While Lor and I had fun on that post, it remained perpetually on the back burner as a show to complete. Kirsti and The Democracy Diva decided it was time to fix that. AND SO, starting Friday they’ll recap the show from episode 1×02. Check out that pilot recap first.

We also covered The OC and then revisited it a couple months later as a bloggy Christmas Special. This left us with episodes 1×01 and 1×13 which has been slowly driving me insane. This is the project that has the biggest twist and was the hardest to put together: we have assigned the remaining episodes of this weirdly 27 episode season to different people. Snark Ladies will be popping in on occasion, but we’re bring around 20 new faces to the blog. Some of them are long time fans and some will have only seen their episode. It’s a batshit crazy experiment and we’re super excited about it. Episode 1×02 will go up on Thursday so be sure to check out our recap of the pilot.

A #snarkathon summer vacation:

Unfortunately, with all the travel, much of the summer’s posting is pretty heavily scheduled in advance (which is a win because YAY STUFF GOING UP ON TIME!) and the logistics of coordinating #snarkathon will be tricky. We’re taking a bit of a break for July and August, but look for its triumphant return in September.

A very snarky hangout:

Guess what we can coordinate? A mini party. The day that Lorraine arrives in Paris we’ve arranged to meet up with a few of you lovely individuals. Sunday, July 27th from noon – 5pm. We’re still sorting out details, but if you happen to be able to get to Paris that weekend, we’d love to see you there! Twitter was a shitty place to talk logistics, so everyone who is planning and attending can convene in the comments.

Also, add it to your calendars:

Welcome Questionable New Friends:

There were some amazing finds in our search terms. Several people were hunting down “team heartless cow” and I choose to believe it’s because they saw some of those amazing shirts in the wild. I laughed forever at the dozen people who found us by searching “buffy spike wrecked best” because I am entirely certain we are not the blog they were looking for. I’m confident none of those people are still here.

I’m most intrigued, however, but this person:

the movie about the green substance

I pulled the term up incorrectly so I’m not even sure where this search led you on our site, and you got over five pages deep in Google because that’s when I gave up in my efforts to replicate this search. Regardless, welcome. Also, thanks for the reminder to add Flubber to our Maybe One Day list for #snarkathon.

We love all your faces, Traumateers. We hope you’re as excited as we are about all the new things coming up.

Lor: And the best, best part of it is that it’s just the beginning.

I'm a 30-something south Floridan who loves the beach but cannot swim. Such is my life, full of small contradictions and little trivialities. My main life goals are never to take life too seriously, but to do everything I attempt seriously well. After that, my life goals devolve into things like not wearing pants and eating all of the Zebra Cakes in the world. THE WORLD.
