Previously: Sharp Objects was unsettling and good even if “enjoy” wasn’t a word we could rightly use.

Sweeney: The fun thing about starting something new is that you get to keep having all sorts of firsts and it’s really cool and exciting.
When I realized that I was going to be able to attend BookNet Fest this year, my main feeling was excitement at getting to support my best friend and see the cool thing she did. But it took all of 5 minutes before an idea took hold: what if we tried to record a live episode of the podcast?
And so, dear readers, we did. We had no idea what we were doing or whether it would work (see also: every episode of this podcast). Still, it seemed like a really cool, fun opportunity. The kind of thing that usually only very big, impressive podcasts get to do, but would be right at home in this community-driven event.
In the interest of being at home in the event, we decided our topic had to be bookish in nature and so we opted to do something we had put on the topic spreadsheet almost immediately: Pride & Prejudice – and not just the book, but its many adaptations, as well. We decided to roll the whole thing up into one big conversation and see where we wound up.
My friend and podcast regular Ceri Riley (SciShow script editor, Monsterss editorial assistant, and haver of good media thoughts) was also going to be at the event along with, of course, another previous guest and Book Net Fest co-founder Sam (who can be found giving insightful book reviews on her booktube channel).
This was a real journey and we are very grateful to everyone at the event who showed up and particularly grateful to Arthur & Alicia who gave us some last minute technical assistance that made this episode possible.
