Supernatural S05 E22 – I’m your density!

CARRY ON MY WAYWARD SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!!! (S: THERE'LL BE PEACE WHEN YOU ARE DOOONE.)
That's right, friends. It's the final episode of the season, and that means it's time for the previouslies to take us right back to the beginning and remind us of all the major plot points from the past five seasons that may prove relevant here. But mostly it means a full minute of jamming to Kansas because I have not so secretly terrible taste in music.

Supernatural S05 E21 – O Death (we love your intro scene so much!)

So we open in Iowa, at a fancy old person home hospital thing. Freaking Pestilence walks into an old lady's room. I dunno you guys, I had somehow convinced myself that all of the Pestilence stuff would be finished in the last episode and that I wouldn't have to recap him again. I was wrong. He sits down on the old lady's bed and acts all Good Doctor-y.

Supernatural S05 E20 – Who the eff is this?

The previouslies take us right back to Jessica, followed by a reminder about the Croatoan virus and Crowley, so clearly we're in for a good time.
We open in a medical research lab, full of lab rats and lab monkeys. A janitor mops the floor as two medical researchers in lab coats talk about how it seems crazy to jump straight to human testing when neither of them have seen the vaccine yet. They study the monkeys and jot down notes as they talk. One looks like a short version of Barack Obama, and it's very disconcerting. The janitor turns towards them and says that he's seen the vaccine. They're all "The fuck?", and he grins that he's running an experiment of his own.

Supernatural S05 E19 – Those beautiful wings.

This episode, a random favorite of mine, opens at a run down vacant motel in Indiana. A sheriff looking fella walks inside and starts looking around. We see that the name of the hotel is the Elysium Fields and the Greek Mythology nerd inside of me has a field (har har) day. We also see a flower pot bloom into life. The flowers look vaguely lotus-y if you put your imagination to it. There's lots of noises and camera angles to indicate that this motel is not quite as abandoned as it appears. Sure enough, the sheriff guy turns around to find an immaculate looking bellhop standing there. He tries to tell the bellhop that he isn't allowed to be here, but Bellhop just rambles about how he has to get everything ready because they are all coming. He then tells the sherif cop guy that he's dinner and murders the fuck out of him.

Supernatural S05 E18 – Family feels and queerbaiting

Is anyone else going to spend the rest of the recap singing Phantom of the Opera, thanks to this episode title? No? Bueller? Okay, fine. I'll actually recap this thing.
Samantha: Unfortunately, Phantom is one of the musicals I don't know by heart yet, but I am going to kick things off with this gif in celebration of the 100th episode!

Supernatural S05 E17 – The Kool-Aid can’t be far off.

The previouslies show us Lisa, from season 3, who has a son named Ben. It was the episode with the creepy ass children.
Kirsti: I'm sorry, you'll have to be more specific. There are at least 2 episodes a season with creepy children...
Samantha: This segues us into the Impala burning rubber down a highway at night. Sam's arm is injured and they are both a little frantic. They mention how they've never seen that many in one place before, just as the Impala screeches to a halt in front of a flaming barricade in the road.

Supernatural S05 E16 – Ow, my feelings

The previouslies is basically a montage of the boys dying a million times, followed by a reminder that the Samulet and its God-finding powers are a thing, so clearly we're in for tons of fun.
We open at the Motel of the Week. Dean's face down in the pillow, surrounded by empty beer cans. He wakes to find two balaclava-wearing guys pointing guns at him and Sam. Sam looks freaked. Dean's all "Must be Tuesday" about it. The guys do the typical villain here's-my-motive-ing (Dean started the Apocalypse, Sam's a freak blah blah whatever), and Dean realises that he knows them - the guys are hunters. Sam tries to explain, but gets shot in the chest for his trouble.

Supernatural S05 E15 – The Bathilda Bagshot incident.

We open at a cemetery where it's storming and hands start reaching out of the graves. Soon, a guy crawls all of the way out.
Kirsti: It was very Buffy-esque, to be honest, and I still can't decide if it was intentional or not.
Samantha: Head cannon that it was intentional.
A man is watching an animal documentary and drinking a beer. There's some scare fake outs and then zombie guy is in the house. He kills beer guy.
BLOOOOOOOOOD.

Supernatural S05 E14 – Excuse me while I hurl.

I'm not going to lie, you guys. When I saw that I had to recap this episode, I nearly threw up in my mouth. Because the opening scene is SO FUCKING SQUICKY AND I CAN'T DEAL WITH IT. But because I love you, I'm going to power through.
Samantha: We really appreciate you.
K: The previouslies remind us about the Four Horsemen and Sam's demon blood addiction, so we're clearly in for a fun episode...

Supernatural S05 E13 – A sucker for those Winchester feels.

So, I start off pumped because I love the Supernatural time travel episodes. Then I immediately sigh because we open with Dean sitting in a chair watching two girls, dressed as a devil and an angel, sexy dancing to the song Cherry Pie. It's kind of awkward to be watching this in a public cafe, so I fast forward a wee bit. (K: Legit.) The girls go away and are replaced by Anna! Remember her? The angel girl? I always liked her. She awkwards that this is what Dean dreams about and he asks why she's crashing his dreams.

Supernatural S05 E12 – Freaky Friday

We open at a bar. A late 30s blonde sits at the bar, sipping a cocktail and looking bored. Sam sits down next to her, acting super weird. He shows off his licence dramatically, talking about how he's 26. The bartender's all "I do not get paid enough for this shit", which is legit. He proceeds to order a banana daiquiri. Blonde Cougar introduces herself, and Sam says that his name is Gary. She flirts with him, and he's all "RIGHT?? I'm totally hot!"
His daiquiri arrives and for some reason, with every sip he takes, we're treated to that "okay, seriously, your drink is finished, stop convincing yourself you can get the last drop through the straw" sound, which makes zero sense.

Supernatural S05 E11 – Here are some gifs.

We open at a psychiatric hospital where a woman patient sits in the doctor's office. He asks why she refuses to take her medication and she says that they make her sleepy and if she sleeps the monster will come. The doctor is all "yeah, but this monster is just a symptom of the schizophrenia that you have, let me describe it to you." Susan says that she knows what she is, she can see her dead son, but this monster is real and killed Annie. He keeps psycho babbling and refuses to believe.

Supernatural S05 E10 – Who lives, who dies, who tells your story

In the process of setting up this post, I realised which episode this is, and NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPE. DO NOT WANT. Can we just skip ahead and pretend this one doesn't happen?? No?
Well, fuck. Let's raid the Supernatural drinks fridge and do this thing.
Samantha: Oh my god, I started drinking a full 24 hours before in preparation. NO PLEASE.
K: We open with a middle-aged dude in a limo pulling up under a freeway interchange. He buries a box in the dirt. "Mr Pendleton, I presume?" comes a British voice from behind him. He turns around and it's MARK SHEPPARD!! Mark Sheppard is in at least one episode of basically every show I've ever loved.

Supernatural S05 E09 – The facial expressions win the episode.

The boys are burning rubber in the Impala as dramatic music plays. They pull up to a hotel and hurry out of the car when Dean double takes because there are several other '67 Chevy Impala's in the parking lot, exactly like Baby. Sam tells him to hurry up and we see Chuck pacing outside of the hotel. They hurry over to him and he seems super confused as to why they're there. Sam is all "You sent me a text, bro and said it was life or death." Chuck denies this and Dean is pissed because they drove all night. Realization seems to hit Chuck's face and he oh nos. We hear Becky's OMG voice say, "Sam!" and squealing. She runs up and Sam remembers her name which causes her to almost orgasm. Dean eye rolls hard and Becky says that Sam seems to have been thinking about her.

Supernatural S05 E08 – What’s on the telly?

We open at the Motel of the Week. (S: I'm so excited I'm so excited I'm so excited.) "Supernatural is filmed before a live studio audience," Dean voiceovers. Music tinkles and the entire colour palate is a million times brighter and happier than usual. Inside the motel room - which has a huge and very clean kitchen - Dean has made a comically oversized sandwich. A studio audience offscreen cheers and claps. "I'm gonna need a bigger mouth," he says. Canned laughter.
Sam enters to cheers and applause. Dean asks what's happening. "Just the end of the world!" Sam says, all upbeat.
