You guys, we are so close to the torture being over. SO CLOSE.
This chapter is called "Vote", so WHO KNOWS WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN?!
Edward grabs Bella and jumps out the window before putting her onto his back like a baby monkey and running off into the forest. Now that she's a daredevil and not a wuss, Bella keeps her eyes open and thinks that vampire piggyback is far superior than riding a motorcycle for thrills. She kisses Edward's neck and he promises them both that he'll win her trust back.
Night. A fancy Mercedes is parked by a deserted looking bridge. Bela returns to her car with a briefcase that's presumably full of money and gasps when she sees someone reflected in the window behind her. It's Gordon, though she doesn't know that. He introduces himself and she looks momentarily freaked. She says that she's heard of him, and thought he was in prison.
Anna May: MORE BELA YAY. Also it's been so long since I watched Supernatural in a non-snark capacity and I'm rapidly realising that I'm not far off a Snow here-- I've completely forgotten who Gordon is. Guess I'm going to find out.

In a nutshell: This is a YA book about vampires. I just wanted to say that right away. In Holly Black's newest, everyone knows vampires exist. In fact, places called Coldtowns exist, walled cities where the fanged creatures can mingle, party, feed off of and (mostly) co-exist with humans. There are those who got stuck in Coldtowns when the walls went up and there are those who chose to go there willingly. The catch is that once you enter a Coldtown, you can never get out.
At the beginning of the book, Tana wakes up after a party to find a house full of corpses. She survived, her ex-boyfriend survived and so did a darkly handsome and entirely strange vampire who looks like he needs Tana's help.
